The Biography of Judy Garland

  • Judy Garland was born as Frances Ethel Gumm, to Ethel and Frank Gumm, on June 10 1922. Born in a medium sized white house in Grand Rapids MN. While Frank Owned and Worked at the New Grand Theater during the day, Ethel took care of Frances and her two older sisters.( Mary Jane And Dorothy Virginia) The New Grand, was the little start for Judy. While her two older sisters were on the stage performing songs and dances, Frances went on stage and started singing Twinkle Twinkle Litlle Star, and refused to get off when her father Frank yelled at her to get down from the off edge of the stage, the audience loved it. Frank finally walked up onto the stage and picked up Frances and Walked her off while she was still singing in his arms. She was only two and one half years old. After this she was known as the little girl with a big voice by the audiences, and Baby Gumm by her family and family friends. Frances two older sisters went to the Old Centeral School, while Frances never did but was in some of the school plays. (Half of the Second Story is dedacated to her in memory also, it is a museum all about her is even used to have the real pairs of rubby slipper and the real dress from the Wizard Of Oz, But they still have lots of her other dresses from other movies and other parties.) She was only four years old when her and her family moved to Lancaster, California. (1926) There they started to more stuff on the stages and also on the radio. (On the way from Grand Rapids to Lancaster, they stopped at Theaters in a lot of other cities to perform and get their names known country wide.) While in Lancaster a family friend suggest that they cange their last name to more of a stage name. He thougth of Garland. Frances thought the same with her name, so she came up with Judy. At the age of 13, Judy tries out for a spot on the MGM crew. After Louis B. Mayer had heard her sing and the stuff she could do with her voice, he was amazed and could belive what he had heard. So Judy and another young rising star at the time, named Deanna Durbin, had to compete against each other for the spot on MGM. Mostly everybody voted for Judy because she had a better and bigger voice, and she wasnt shy like Deanna. But for 3 years they couldnt find anything for her to do, then she stared in The Love Finds Andy Hardy. In 1939 is when she became a real star. she tries out for another MGM role. The studio droppped Sherley Temple fro the roll as Dorothy, and cast Judy for the role. Her first marriage was to DAvid Rose on July 28, 1941. During the marriage Judt became pregnent and was forced to have an abortion at the insistance og MGM; they thought it would ruin her good-girl image. This event would traumatize her for the rest of her life. This also caused her to Divorce DAvid on June 8,1944. One year later seh married again to the director of her movie called meet me in ST. Louis. Together They had a famouse daughter named Liza Minelli. In all of the 40's she was in over 18 movies! She was so over worked she would sometimes come in to work hours late or not show up at all. She would give it her all or nothing. this sometimes caused her to get fired because she wasnt doing her best. She did do her best anyways in the movies she wa sina nd everyone could tell. Later after making the movie Summer Stock, The studio notices Judy had agained some weight and that she also wanst as good as she used to be, so the studia fired her. Judy had two ther children, Joey and Lorna Luft. Soon after she had them she divorced her 3rd husband. Judy Garland Died in London, England on june 22 1969, she was only 47 years of age. The day she dies there was a tornado is Kansas. To me, i think Judy Garland and Frances Ethel Gumm, was the best actress, singer, and sensation of pictures to ever walk the earths siol. Also, 9 years after she dies, they named a rose after her, it was yellow with red tips. (those were her favorite colors.) <33333333>
